History of the Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Veterinary Science, Prince of Songkla University, is located at the Chulabhorn Karunyaraks Building, 15 Kanjanavanich Road, Hat Yai Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. As an academic faculty under Prince of Songkla University, its mission is to provide instruction and disseminate knowledge in the field of Veterinary Science, having offered its undergraduate program since 2014.

The faculty’s establishment originated from a seminar organized by the private sector on May 21, 2008, where participants reached a consensus on the necessity of establishing a veterinary faculty at Prince of Songkla University. The project was further accelerated by the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC). Subsequently, the Prince of Songkla University Council, in its 325th meeting (6/2010) on September 18, 2010, resolved to approve the Faculty of Veterinary Science Establishment Project. On February 2, 2011, the Cabinet approved the project in principle.

In 2011, the University Academic Council, in its 127th meeting (9/2011) on October 11, 2011, approved the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) curriculum. This approval was formally reported to the University Council in its 336th meeting (9/2011) on December 24, 2011. Furthermore, the curriculum was officially accredited by the Veterinary Council of Thailand on November 20, 2014 (Meeting No. 10/2014).

In the 2015 academic year, the Hat Yai Campus Academic Committee, in its 41st meeting (9/2014) on December 9, 2014, approved the admission of the first batch of students through a special admission track, totaling 25 students. The Animal Hospital subsequently began providing veterinary services to the general public on December 21, 2015. Finally, on April 2, 2016, the university officially elevated the project’s status to the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

The Prince of Songkla University Council officially approved the Faculty of Veterinary Science Establishment Project on September 18, 2010, and appointed Associate Professor Usa Chethanon, DVM, as its first Dean.
